redhot diagnostics AB/ PEthmark AB has signed a licensing agreement with Sigma-Aldrich Co.

redhot diagnostics AB/ PEthmark AB has signed a licensing agreement with Sigma-Aldrich Co. LLC (Merck AG), giving Sigma-Aldrich rights to manufacture and sell solution based Certified Reference Material (CRMs) of PEth alcolhol biomarkers.

PEth, or phosphatidylethanol, is a group of phospholipids formed only in the presence of ethanol from the action of phospholipase D. These direct alcohol biomarkers demonstrate high sensitivities appropriate for determining moderate to heavy alcohol consumption. The superior sensitivity and specificity of blood PEth over other alcohol biomarkers for determining alcohol consumption has resulted in its wide use and recommendation in the US and EU as a confirmatory test for recent drinking.

The product was developed by employees at Region Skåne and further refined by Innovation Skåne. Innovation Skåne develops ideas from employees that could benefit healthcare.

“We are very happy that we have found a strong high profile partner for the PEth reference material in Sigma-Aldrich. Sigma Aldrich with its global presence will make a huge difference in covering the global market. ” Håkan Randahl CEO redhot diagnostics  AB.

Pethmark AB is a fully owned subsidiary to redhot diagnostics AB.

redhot diagnostics is a company that produces, market and sell diagnostic products to research and routine laboratories at hospitals.

The LC-MS/MS platform is now moving from the research environment to the clinic routine lab settings. With that follows that the methods used for different biomarkers has to be standardized in a way that makes them easy to use in routine labs and with preserved quality.

The introduction of complete LC-MS/MS kits for different established biomarkers is today a relatively unexplored business market.
